On Rabbits and Moose (Okay, Just One of Each..)

Here are some Alaskan pics I've taken so far. The top photo shows Anna and Jeff at Rabbit Slough. We saw the moose, 2nd photo below, at Whale Lake. He regarded us for a few minutes, and then plopped down to relax.

Who Writes the Stickleblog?

In the current 2011 summer research season we have folks up north amassing collections and examining behavior. We also have many students hard at work in the lab in Massachusetts.

Audrey Seiz and Shannon O'Neil (a British Columbia fieldwork veteran) are spending their first Alaska field season this year assisting in many projects. They will create live collections for use in the lab back at Clark University in Massachusetts. They will also help gather preserved collections and start experiments examining salinity effects on embryo development. They will also assist Miguel Reyes with his doctoral research on the ghost parasite that plagues Northwestern stickleback.

Daniella Swenton is the Foster/Baker lab's postdoctoral research fellow. This field season she will oversee her totally rad field crew on their myriad adventures.

Back at home a number of students are hard at work on their doctoral research (Justin Golub and Dianne Suggs) and senior and master's thesis work (Thuy Bui, Joshua Bruckner, Lisa Kennedy, and Lily Hughes).

We also have a number of Clark undergraduate students who are learning research methods and embarking on their own projects including Stephanie Aldrich, Colleen Gentile, Mitchell Kukol, Katie McMahan, and Noah Salowitz.
